Other moments of “your” life are inhabited and experienced by other people (with whom you, admittedly, often bear a striking resemblance).
In a real and literal sense the person who finishes an action is different from the one who initiated it. The person who started reading this sentence is not identical to the one who just finished it. But by default we feel identical, in some hard to articulate way, to our past and future selves.
Instead, conceiving of yourself an as emergent pattern in space and time, a part of a whole; makes more sense, is more beautiful, and is more conducive to inner peace.
